Managing RAAC on campus 鈥 May 2025 Update
Posted on behalf of: Better Campus
Last updated: Tuesday, 13 May 2025

In 2022, RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete)was found to have been used in the construction of several university buildings.鈥
The safety of students and staff remains our top priority. Where necessary, safety measures such as scaffolding props were put in place and the condition of RAAC is regularly monitored. All buildings remain open and safe to use鈥痺ith access restrictions where necessary.鈥
In 2024, two RAAC projects were completed. Bramber House RAAC roof panels were replaced, and reinforcement works took place in Mandela Hall, Falmer House.
The location and condition of RAAC is unique to each building, so where possible, RAACreplacement鈥痯rojects鈥痺ill be integrated into existing campus improvement鈥痯lans, helping us to deliver the鈥痓est solution for each building.鈥€
